Pentwater

Pentwater, Oceana County’s only navigable port, is situated on the eastern shores of Lake Michigan, “The Big Lake”, and Pentwater Lake and is bordered by the Pentwater River and Bass Lake. Within one mile of Snug Harbor are quaint shops, restaurants, ice cream parlors, delis, grocery stores, bait shops, and Mears State Park on Lake Michigan. Visit the Chamber of Commerce, just two blocks north of Snug Harbor, and get information about this Historic Lakeshore Village.

In the 1940 Armistice Day Storm three commercial vessels, the Minch, the Davock, and the Novadoc were pounded by the large waves and surf and /or dashed upon the rocks and sandbar just off Pentwater. The Novadoc is marked by a small buoy off the sand dunes at Little Point Sable and is easily seen on calm days. Bring your SCUBA equipment and spend a day swimming among the fish and her hull.

Fishing is fantastic all year, and there are as many ideas about how to catch as there are kinds of fish. Many charters are available in Pentwater. Bring your own boat, use the Municipal Launch ramp southeast of Snug Harbor, and keep your trailer in our Storage Building.
